Kitchen cabinets

Repainting cabinets costs a fraction of replacing them and changes a kitchen more than almost anything else you can do to it. It is also the one interior job where the equipment genuinely decides the result.

Why sprayed, not brushed

Brush marks on a flat cabinet door are visible forever, in every light, from anywhere in the room. We spray doors with an HVLP fine-finish setup and have a spray shop to do it in — so doors come off, get sprayed flat and properly cured, and go back on. That is what makes the difference between cabinets that look refinished and cabinets that look painted.

What is involved

Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labelled so every one goes back where it started. Everything is cleaned — kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking grease, and nothing bonds to grease. Then sanded to give the primer a key, primed with a bonding primer, and sprayed.

Boxes and face frames are done in place, masked off from the counters and the floor.

How long

Plan on the kitchen being partly out of action for several days. Cured properly is not something you can rush without paying for it later.

Bathroom vanities too

Same process, smaller job. Often worth doing at the same time as the kitchen.
