Patch repair and repaint, damaged wall corner in Merced
A knocked-through corner beside an interior doorway in Merced — filled, the texture matched back into the surrounding wall, and repainted so the repair does not read.
What we started with
The corner had taken a knock and lost its paint and surface texture together, exposing the dark board underneath, with a crack running up from it and the paint lifting along the edges of the damage.
What we did
The loose material was cut back to something sound, the corner filled and rebuilt, the surrounding orange-peel texture matched across the repair, and the whole corner primed and repainted.
Why a patch shows even after it is painted
Most visible repairs are not badly filled. They are filled flat and then painted, on a wall that has texture everywhere except in that one spot. A smooth patch in a textured wall catches the light differently from everything around it, so it reads as a pale flat mark from across the room no matter how carefully the colour is matched.
The fix is to put the texture back before painting — matching the pattern and the depth of what is already on the wall, then feathering it out far enough that there is no edge for the eye to catch.
Priming the repair, not just the wall
Filler and bare board drink paint at a completely different rate from an old painted surface. Painted straight over, the repaired area dries duller than the wall around it — the same colour, a different sheen, which in some lights is just as obvious as a colour mismatch. The repair gets primed on its own before the wall is painted as a whole.
Corners take the damage
External corners next to doorways are where furniture, vacuum cleaners and everyday traffic land, so this is the most common interior repair we do. It is worth fixing properly rather than filling and hoping, because a corner that has failed once is going to get knocked again.
